Locally Family Owned & Operated Independent Hardware Store

Whether it’s your first time or third time building a house, you’ll certainly want to make sure that all the construction materials you use are of high quality. Therefore, when it comes to choosing plasterboard, make sure to choose only Gyprock, a brand trusted by Australian contractors and master builders for years.

What is Gyprock Made Of?

Gyprock’s plasterboard products are made from gypsum, paper, and a small amount of additives. It has a paper liner that is made from 100% recycled newspapers and cartons. The additives, meanwhile, are made from starch, foam, and other non-toxic substances.

To make Gyprock plasterboard, gypsum, a non-toxic sedimentary rock, is combined with a foaming agent to create a wet plaster mix. This plaster is then applied onto a sheet of thick paper, with the latter’s edges being wrapped around the plaster. After the application of the plaster, a sheet of linerboard paper is then placed over the top to create a plaster “sandwich.”

The plaster sandwich is then oven-dried before being cut to specific lengths and being shipped to stores, ready for use. The final product features two long edges that are paper-wrapped and two cut edges.

Apart from the standard plasterboard, Gyprock also offers special products designed to meet the specific needs of builders. For instance, their new Optimised Core technology allows Gyprock to produce boards with greater breaking strength while being lighter than conventional plasterboards being sold today.

Gyprock Plasterboard Installation

To install Gyprock plasterboard sheets, they can be attached to timber or steel frames using Gyprock Acrylic Stud Adhesives and plasterboard screws or nails. You can create a more seamless look by concealing the joints with a tape and jointing compound system. The plasterboard sheets can also be sanded to make it easier for you or the contractors to decorate or paint them over.

Gyprock plasterboard sheets can also be affixed to brick or block masonry surfaces (ensure that the latter comply with AS3700). This can be done by directly attaching the plasterboard to the wall with Gyprock Masonry Adhesive. Alternatively, a furring system may be applied to these surfaces and attached using the appropriate Gyprock system.
